Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Wearable Robotics
The Rehab. Robotics Lab invites applications for a postdoctoral research position.
The postdoctoral fellow will mainly work on the project – a robotic ankle-foot prosthesis control with biofeedback to maximize user comfort in Rehab. Robotics Lab (https://rehab-robotics.lab.uic.edu/) at UIC. This is a collaborative project with Dr. Matty Major at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center and Northwestern University.
Duties
- Wearable robot (robotic ankle-foot prosthesis emulator) control and robotic hardware maintenance/improvement
- Conduct controlled human subject experiments
- Data analysis
- Work closely with collaborators
- Mentor/supervise research activities within the lab for graduate/undergraduate students regarding data analysis, human subject experiments, experimental protocol design, result interpretation/presentations, and manuscript preparations.
- Maintain project documentation, including IRB and prepare knowledge transfer materials.
- Publish scientific results in peer-reviewed journals.
- Participate in writing/submitting research proposals for future funding opportunities.
Requirements:
A Ph.D. in robotics, mechatronics, or computer science with experience in machine learning within 5 years.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Wearable robotics
- Human biomechanics
- Bayesian optimization
- Machine learning for a parameter selection
- Biosignals analysis (e.g., Pressure sensors, EMG)
- Human-robot physical interaction

The ideal start date is October 15, but it is flexible. The position will remain open until filled. The project will be supervised by Dr. Myunghee Kim and and will be co-mentored with Dr. Major. Positions are for 12 months with the possibility of renewal.
